I was on the fast track, intent on breaking through the impermeable glass ceiling. There was nothing and no one who could stop me. That was until I heard the words, “You have cancer.”

Book Reviews:
“An inspiring, true reflection that encourages the reader to think. Not My Secret, Triumph Over Tragedy is a genuine telling not only of the author’s walk through cancer and subsequent struggles, but how her complete dependency on Jesus has provided her a bold spirit she desires to strengthen and share. Through meaty scripture references and motivating stories that make you laugh a lot and cry a little, she has us pondering how our lives align with God’s will, and how we will respond when up against difficulties. Will we react with the character of a chicken or an eagle? Tidy points of reflection at the end of each chapter make it easy to see your growth through the reading. I encourage you to not only read this book, but also to boldly share it”
“Perfect read for anyone facing a struggle or wanting to witness the power of God. This was such an uplifting book. It is absolutely amazing to read about the struggles Kara faced and the extraordinary power of our Lord. This is a great book for anyone facing hardship or struggles in their life, but it is also great just to read about how God impacted her life and showed himself to her. I’m hoping for more books in the future from this powerful, uplifting author.”
“A Must Read! This story will not only bring you closer to God and grow your faith, it will have you shedding tears and laughing out loud. This amazing author has taken her life trials along with scriptures and given us a guide to coping with not only cancer but any life tragedy or trial we may encounter.”
“This book is more about faith and life than cancer . The author shares the strength and wisdom God has given her to persevere through life’s struggles; especially from eight years and multiple diagnosis’s of cancer. Her heartwarming stories of her family will make you laugh. You’ll cry as she shares how during times of fear, anxiety and weariness from the pain and suffering of cancer they grew closer together and gained a deeper and personal relationship with God. At the end of each chapter, the reader will benefit from the opportunity to reflect and applying key steps she had found helpful in her journey through life’s uncertain times. For her, it was one step at a time. The author hopes the book may be the first step the reader takes towards sharing their own story. Read it. Pass it on. Buy it for a friend. Seriously, whether you are twenty and younger or eighty and beyond. You will love this book.”
“What Not My Secret did for me. Not My Secret is a heart rendering story of a woman’s walk through valleys and climbing mountains as she faces cancer. She tells of this walk with God leading, carrying, catching her tears. She gives hope for those who need help, love and guidance that are going through these valleys. When reading I felt joy, amazement, and heart ache. She gave me ways to look for God in my life and encouraged me to work on my daily life with Jesus. Kara made me feel if she could do it, I can do it. The book was a great gift.”
“Motivational, moving, uplifting, refreshing, powerful!”
“Well worth the read. I appreciated that her story does not simply tell her journey but provides opportunities at the end of each chapter for the reader to relate her circumstances to their own lives.”
“Anyone who is struggling should read this book. I used this book to help me grow in my faith. Kara has a way of simplifying things making them easy to understand. I recommend everyone read this book and apply it’s principles to your everyday life”
“Goosebumps. So many messages and take-aways from this book. I was sent this book by a relative. At first, I was like “I have 36 full-day seminars I have to write in a short amount of time. I do not have time to read a book that does not have to do with my research.” It came on Thursday. I picked it up to read one chapter on Friday morning. I thought I’ll read a chapter a day till it’s finished and I can still work on my projects.
Well, God had other ideas. I finished the book by Friday evening. It is the author’s reflection of learning to listen to God as she dealt with several tragedies which she has triumphed over. It has rejuvenated my own listening skills and all day today (Saturday), I’ve been looking for signs from above. I’ve already had three things that were definitely “GOD” things.
My friends and I always remark to each other, “That was definitely a “GOD” thing when things seem to happen for a reason.” Just like the other day, I had just finished a training for a small group on anxiety and I specifically focused on several children I had worked with within the foster care system. That evening, my friend (who had no idea I’d just completed this seminar) wrote and asked for help with some kiddos she was working with who were struggling in school and they were all foster-care children. We both said, “it’s a God thing”, that’s why I thought to contact you.” This book was a “GOD” thing. I was meant to read this book this week.
Kara has opened my eyes to being a better listener to God. There are so many times I know something I’m supposed to do, but I can push it to the back of my mind because I’m so busy and then I leave it there. This book has a simple workbook page at the end of every chapter that helps with our own focus. It is a book I think you will want to read more than once.
My favorite “goosebump” moment was the Nike Stripes coincidence and the story of the eagle versus the chicken. I want to be an eagle instead of a chicken. Thank you to the author for her very inspiring writing and knowledge of using the Word. I liked the example of the difference between Jesus and Eve in the Garden of Eden knowing the Word and not knowing the Word and how that can be used against us by Satan.”
